Job Title: Senior Management Accountant

Cannon Fire Sprinklers & Cannon Fire Safety is a specialist offering the complete design, installation and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems and ancillary services. It supports customers by providing high-quality fire suppression and compliance based on appropriate fire safety legislation. We provide our services to both Commercial and Residential.

The Senior Management Accountant role is a senior position responsible for the management accounts, profit and loss, balance sheet and transactional ledgers for the Cannon companies.

This senior role involves working closely with senior leadership across the businesses advising on the financial implications of business decisions to aid growth and profit. You will also work closely with the finance team across the Asset Protection Group.

Purpose of the role

To be accountable for the finance function of two trading entities including managing a small finance team, cashflow forecasting, cash collection, supplier and contractor payment runs, monthly installation project accounting, monitoring of financial performance against budgets and forecasts. To be accountable for the simPRO system ensuring its full utilisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the installations team with the submission of applications for payment in accordance with contract dates, ensure accurate accounting and invoicing of certifications and pay less notices, supporting in securing timely receipt of certified payments  
  • Preparing management accounts, reports, budgets, commentaries, and financial statements for the Cannon Sprinklers & Safety business as required
  • Record financial transactions for project, department, company
  • Monitoring and forecasting of cashflow to support the wider group cashflow management and treasury requirements 
  • Preparation of supplier and contractor payment runs, ensuring matching to GRNs and purchase orders and obtaining appropriate management approvals
  • Management of Credit Controller and support with escalation of collection of overdue debts 
  • Prepare financial statements for internal and external use
  • Undertaking financial administration and internal audits
  • Support the wider group team where required
  • Developing and managing financial systems/policies
  • Reconcile spending with budget as part of job costing
  • Analyse financial performance and forecast longer term horizons
  • Annual Budgeting
  • Recommend methods and strategies for cutting cost
  • Support financial analysis and integration aspects of acquisitions and strategic projects
  • Controlling and forecasting income and expenditure
  • Monthly CIS returns and quarterly VAT returns


The Person 

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
  • Strong knowledge of Revenue Recognition accounting, particularly in relation to long term contracts
  • Experience in construction project accounting principles including Applications for payment, Payment Certificates, CIS and Reverse VAT
  • Experience of SimPRO or other job costing ERP systems
  • Experience of Sage 50
  • You will be an experienced well-rounded individual, capable of working with people at all levels within an organisation and will be able to build strong relationships with external parties
  • Good oral and written communication skills
